I saw this set of Enciclopedia de la Mujer (Women’s Encyclopedia) in the house of my first three-day host family during training.
What subjects other than beauty, decorating, health and hygiene, vacations and free time, the home, and the family does a woman need to be knowledgeable about?
Mom, do you think you could find me a set for Christmas? I have much to learn.

I love how beauty is the first installment, as if to say,
“If you don’t have this subject mastered you can just forget about having a family and a house to decorate. You will live the rest of your life as an ugly spinster in your parents’ home with no vacations or free time because you’ll be working your decrepit hands to the bone.”
Yeah, I really do need to get these before it is too late!:)
After examining the original photo I noticed these encyclopedias were published by Salvat Editores. With a little bit of internet research, I discovered that Salvat is out of Barcelona, Spain with its international office in Lisbon, Portugal (you should be so proud, Jenna). The Enciclopedia de la Mujer is not listed on their website, so I imagine it must be out of print. Do you think, perhaps, modern day women found these stereotypical encyclopedias to be offensive? No:)
