Awards Ceremony

After the finals of the men’s and women’s basketball leagues and the youth and men’s soccer leagues, the Muni put on an awards ceremony. I was the official photographer for the event “representing ESPN 2.”

The trophies.

A packed house for the finals.

Álvaro representing the winners of the youth soccer league. (He is one of "my" kids.)

Winners of the men's soccer league.

The winners of the women's league.

My future basketball team?

Hey. I don't know you. But I used to work at the American Embassy in Guate and you once left a comment on my blog from when I went to the bolas de fuego. I was checking something from that post today and saw your comment and found your blog.

Anyway, that's all preface to say that your descriptions of the Bolas de Fuego and life in Tactic are awesome. Also, the long recent post about basketball in Verapaz is maybe the best ever.

Keep it up, it makes me miss Guate but it's worth it!

Matt,

I am glad you like my blog. I have really enjoyed reading about your time in Guatemala and now in Latvia.

I have talked to the mayor of Tactic about doing some publicity for the Bolas de Fuego event...not changing it in anyway but trying to attract some tourists to watch it. Most people from Tactic hate it, but I think it would be a great way for the community to generate some income from tourism...There might have to be some hold harmless waiver signing involved.
