FHS Rocks!

I would like to extend a warm welcome to all of Mrs. Anne Griffin’s social studies students at Fulton High School in Fulton, Missouri. Although I know you all are reading my blog by force, I hope that through it you will learn a little about the amazing country of Guatemala and what it is like to serve as a Peace Corps Volunteer. Please feel free to post comments or questions, and I will try to answer them as soon as possible. ¡Viva los avispones!

Hi Kate,
Was up at Bookstore on the campus of UNL Wednesday and bought a Husker knit top and guess where it was made! Guatemala!! "Big Red fans" are just all over this world! I told Jerry I couldn't wait to tell you!
Hope things are going well for you!! Love, Carolyn L

Although I can't condone buying any Husker gear, it is interesting that it was made here in Guatemala:)

What are the symbols on Mrs. Griffin's shirt? They look Jewish.

Kelly, you don't have to lie to boost my self-esteem. I know I look nothing but frumpy in frumpy traje:)

Sean,

I am not sure what the names of those designs on Anne's huipile are, but they are traditional designs used a lot here in Alta Verapaz. And so, no, they are not Jewish:)

was it hard to leave all your friends and family here in the states when you left for Guatemala?? I had to leave home one time and i was really homesick.

Sarah,

Yeah, it was a little difficult to leave friends and family. But after high school and then subsequently college, communication with my family and many of my good friends boiled down to lots of phone calls and emails and infrequent visits. Yeah, I am in another country, but I can still call whenever I want (costs a lot more) and email...just the visits are even less frequent.
